Position Title: Power System Junior Analyst (Simulations)

Location: New Delhi, India
Title: Research Assistant / Senior Research Assistant
No. of Openings: 1 (One)

About FSR Global:

FSR Global is a not-for profit independent regulatory hub of excellence focused on energy transitions in the Global South. Using a system thinking approach we aim at improving the quality of energy regulation by collaborating and co-creating knowledge with multi-stakeholders from the energy sector and beyond. We develop and disseminate knowledge through our 3-pillars of activities– training, policy dialogues and research, through Global North-South and Global South- South partnerships.

The Role

The position focuses on advanced power system simulations to evaluate the technical feasibility and grid impacts of India’s energy transition policies. The analyst will be responsible for modeling future grid scenarios, assessing stability and reliability, and generating robust technical evidence to guide decision-making.

The outcomes will directly support grid-modernization projects and broader initiatives at FSR Global.

Key Responsibilities

1. Power System Modeling & Simulation

  • Develop, maintain, and execute detailed models of the Indian power grid using tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, DigSilent PowerFactory, OpenDSS, or EMTP.
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, and dynamic stability analyses for diverse scenarios, including high renewable energy penetration and EV integration.
  • Evaluate grid impacts of new resources (e.g., wind, solar, storage) and transmission infrastructure projects.

 2. Technical Analysis & Co-Creation

  • Collaborate with partners to collect technical data and validate simulation models.
  • Design and execute technical simulation cases and contribute to robust, evidence-based studies.
  • Draft and co-author technical sections of research reports, white papers, and presentations, ensuring clarity for both technical and non-technical audiences.

3. Supporting Framework Development

  • Provide simulation-driven insights to support development of India Energy Stack use cases.
  • Contribute to technical handbooks and capacity-building resources for regulators and system operators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power System Simulation and Analysis.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in power system analysis and simulation, ideally within a utility, system operator, research institution, or consultancy.
  • Proficiency in at least one major power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, DigSilent PowerFactory, OpenDSS, EMTP).
  • Strong theoretical and practical grounding in power system dynamics, control, and protection principles.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical insights into actionable recommendations.

Remuneration: As per market standards in India.
