JOB TITLE: Principal Engineer / Architect
LOCATION: New Delhi, India
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
VERTICAL: Technology / IES Architecture & Accelerator
REPORTS TO: Chief Technology Architect
ABOUT FSR GLOBAL
FSR Global supports clean energy transitions in the Global South by bringing strategy, engineering, and markets together to solve real energy-transition challenges—through capability building, structured dialogues, and proof-of-concept work that enables adoption at scale.

 ROLE SUMMARY
The Principal Engineer/Architect is a senior technical leader who owns architecture coherence across products and platforms, shapes organisation-wide technical decisions, and drives execution for critical initiatives. This is not purely an Individual Contributor role: you will set direction, establish standards, mentor engineers, and operate as a trusted technical counterpart to programme leadership, partners, and stakeholders—while still staying close to the ground and actual implementation when needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Architecture & Technical Direction

  • Architect solutions at System Level for country scale problems.
  • Own end-to-end architecture across key platforms (APIs, data models, integration patterns, security, reliability).
  • Define system boundaries, contracts, and reference architectures that enable interoperability, modularity, and phased adoption.
  • Establish engineering standards for API design, schema governance, versioning, observability, and secure-by-default patterns.

Org-Level Decision Making & Governance

  • Drive technical trade-offs with clarity (build vs buy, centralized vs federated, speed vs safety) and document decisions.
  • Chair design reviews for high-impact projects; ensure architectural consistency across teams and vendors.
  • Create a pragmatic technology roadmap aligned to programme outcomes and stakeholder realities (utilities, operators, regulators, ecosystem partners).

Execution Leadership

  • Lead or unblock delivery of mission-critical initiatives (platform foundations, registries/identity, sandbox environments, reference implementations).
  • Set quality bars and operating rhythms (SLOs, incident response patterns, release discipline, security reviews).
  • Build strong engineering culture: mentoring, feedback, hiring inputs, and growth pathways for senior engineers.

External & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Represent architecture and technical intent in multi-stakeholder forums; translate complexity for non-technical audiences.
  • Partner with policy/research/programme teams to ensure designs are implementable, adoptable, and auditable.

QUALIFICATIONS
 Education

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.

Experience and Skills

  • 12+ years building and scaling production software; 4+ years leading architecture across multiple systems/teams.
  • Strong system design fundamentals: distributed systems, API-first design, data modeling, security, performance, reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority: aligning stakeholders, documenting decisions, setting standards.
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture and platform engineering (CI/CD, observability, infrastructure as code, automated testing).
  • Familiarity and hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, coding copilots, automated testing/analysis assistants) to improve engineering productivity, quality, and documentation.
  • Bonus: experience with public infrastructure / DPI-style systems, interoperability standards, regulated environments, or energy/utility integrations.
  • Nice to have: experience working on ML/AI or Big Data applications (e.g., data pipelines, analytics platforms, model deployment/serving).

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Mission-driven work advancing clean energy transitions in the Global South.
  • A collaborative, high-trust team environment with access to a global network of senior energy experts.
  • Professional development through exposure to cutting-edge energy policy, regulation, and market design work.
  • Competitive compensation and hybrid working arrangements aligned to role requirements.
  • An inclusive culture that values rigor, initiative, and collective responsibility, with an organisation-wide winter break.
