About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our team in advancing methodologies for Resource Adequacy (RA) planning. The successful candidate will work on developing an integrated approach to Resource Adequacy (RA) assessment frameworks, mapping various technical, economic, and policy metrics necessary for holistic Resource Adequacy (RA) planning and its application to developing a modelling tool.
The Research Fellow will work with the co-chairs and expert working group of the Resource Adequacy vertical to develop and refine methodologies, tools, and research frameworks. The researcher will engage with and drive partnerships with relevant policymakers, utilities, academia, and industry leaders. Responsibilities include conducting independent and innovative research, data analysis, publishing high-impact papers, supporting training programs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Resource Adequacy Research & Modelling Framework
- Develop and refine holistic Resource Adequacy (RA) assessment frameworks that integrate various metrics, including generation adequacy, demand estimation, flexibility and grid reliability, including interaction with electricity markets.
- Develop an India specific modelling tool for Resource Adequacy (RA) linked to the integrated framework developed
- Work with modelling working groups to understand and collaborate on modelling tool development
- Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and recommendations for government agencies, utilities, and industry stakeholders.
- Monitor and analyse policy, regulatory, and industry trends related to resource adequacy and grid reliability.
- Maintain a repository of policy and regulatory developments, technical studies, and global best practices in resource adequacy planning.
- Conduct data-driven analysis, leveraging large datasets to extract meaningful insights for Resource Adequacy (RA) planning, grid resilience, and renewable energy integration.
- Identify and aggregate key learnings from the energy ecosystem, compiling insights into a structured framework.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Capacity Building
- Engage with policymakers, industry leaders, think tanks, and research institutions (within India and Globally) to share insights and develop meaningful discussions.
- Design and deliver training programs, policy dialogues, and stakeholder engagement initiatives like workshops to facilitate knowledge-building and sharing in enhancing the understanding and implementation of Resource Adequacy (RA) frameworks.
- Support training programs for government officials, industry professionals, and stakeholders, ensuring practical application of research findings.
- Collaborate with global and domestic institutions to advance integrated Resource Adequacy (RA) planning methodologies.
- Contribute to securing funding through grant applications and partnerships.
- Strategic Planning & Project Execution
- Work with senior leadership and internal team to define research priorities, program goals, and success metrics.
- Assist in project planning, execution, proposal development and reporting for funders and stakeholders.
- Continuously assess program impact and suggest refinements based on emerging trends and research findings.
- Contribute actively to project/team discussions and work on various team/group specific strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, System Operations or a related field with expertise in resource adequacy planning.
- 7+ years of experience (including PhD years) in the Indian power sector or global resource adequacy assessment frameworks.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, GAMA or JAVA for energy system modelling.
- Understanding of Resource Adequacy (RA) methodologies, planning and application to the India context
- Expertise in power system modelling & optimization.
- Familiarity with energy modelling software such as PLEXOS, Gridpath etc.
- Proven track record of high-impact research publications in the power sector.
- Ability to engage with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and academia to drive impactful research and policy discussions.
- Experience in facilitating knowledge-sharing events such as workshops, debates, and seminars.
- Experience working with utilities, regulators, and energy operators will be an advantage.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

Remuneration: As per market standards in India.
