JOB TITLE: Staff Software Engineer / Lead
LOCATION: New Delhi, India
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
VERTICAL: Technology / Engineering Delivery
REPORTS TO: Chief Technology Architect
ABOUT FSR GLOBAL
FSR Global supports clean energy transitions in the Global South by bringing strategy, engineering, and markets together to solve real energy-transition challenges—through capability building, structured dialogues, and proof-of-concept work that enables adoption at scale.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Staff Software Engineer/Lead is a senior builder-owner who takes projects from ambiguous problem statements to shipped, reliable systems. You will own delivery across internal teams and external partners/contractors, ensure engineering rigor, and build generalist solutions that can evolve across use cases.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Ownership (Build-to-Run)
- Own delivery for major modules/workstreams: requirements translation, technical design, implementation, release, and operations.
- Break down large problems into milestones; drive execution discipline with clear scope, risks, and dependencies.
- Build core services, APIs, and workflows with high reliability, security, and maintainability.
Partner & Contractor Leadership
- Lead technical execution with contractors/partners: define scopes, review designs, enforce quality, manage integration.
- Set acceptance criteria, testing requirements, and documentation standards for vendor-delivered components.
- Ensure third-party contributions meet architecture and security expectations.
Engineering Excellence
- Establish and maintain strong practices: code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, incident response.
- Drive pragmatic performance improvements and reduce operational toil through tooling and automation.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on delivery speed and correctness.
Generalist Problem Solving
- Work across backend, systems, integrations, and (when needed) frontend—prioritizing what moves outcomes fastest.
- Translate complex stakeholder needs into clean contracts, stable interfaces, and usable developer experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.
Experience and Skills
- 10+ years of professional software development experience; demonstrated ownership of large projects.
- Strong backend development skills (services, APIs, databases, asynchronous processing, integration patterns).
- Experience coordinating multi-party delivery (internal teams and vendors/contractors).
- Solid production engineering: monitoring, debugging, reliability, scaling, and secure coding practices.
- Familiarity and hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, coding copilots, automated testing/analysis assistants) to improve engineering productivity, quality, and documentation.
- Bonus: experience building sandboxes, developer platforms, API governance, or interoperability programs.
- Nice to have: experience working on ML/AI or Big Data applications (e.g., data pipelines, analytics platforms, model deployment/serving).
WHAT WE OFFER
- Mission-driven work advancing clean energy transitions in the Global South.
- A collaborative, high-trust team environment with access to a global network of senior energy experts.
- Professional development through exposure to cutting-edge energy policy, regulation, and market design work.
- Competitive compensation and hybrid working arrangements aligned to role requirements.
- An inclusive culture that values rigor, initiative, and collective responsibility, with an organisation-wide winter break.
